WELCOME TO THE DANISH CHURCH IN NEWCASTLE

We are always welcoming new members - the more we are, the greater the change that you can join others to experience not just jul and nytår and påske but also fastelavn and Sankt Hans. The Danish is a community, not a building - we have not had one of those for almost fifty years. But wherever we - including you - meet that is where we are

Gudstjenester/Services

We organise Danish Lutheran services with Danish pastors, experienced in holding services to congregations with both a Danish and English background.

Kaffe og kage / tea and a bun

Danish churches serve both religious and social functions. Danish churches outside Denmark are particularly aware of the need to provide "hygge", not just religious services. "Kaffe og kage". JOIN US so that we can organise Påske, Jul, Nytår, Fastelavn

On 8 May 2025 at 11.30, we gather in Newcastle's St Nicholas Cathedral to remember the several thousand Danish dead

During the Second Wolrd War, almost six thousand Danish merchant seamen volunteered to sail for the Allies. They - the War Sailors - became Danmark's first freedom fighters and they secured Denmark's place among the Allied nations and among the founding members of the United Nations in 1945. In 1940-1945, Newcastle was their Home Town

Frequently Asked Questions

Are our services in Danish?

Our services follow the format of services in the Danish Lutheran Church (if you were baptised in a Danish church, you are already a member). Our pastors are experienced in holding services for mixed Danish/English congregations, so there is usually an English element

How often do services take place?

That depends on the availability of Danish pastors and the demand from the congregation. Join us and be part of that demand

Where do services take place?

Usually in the Martin Luther Church in Shieldfield in Newcastle upon Tyne. Adress: Clarence St, Shieldfield, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE2 1YH, a very walk from the Biscuit Factory art shop. Some parking is available on-site. Nearest Metro station is Manors (ten minutes' walk on mostly flat land, once you are up from the station itself)
